At Interserve, our responsibility to reduce our impact on the environment is taken seriously.
Sustainability touches every aspect of the design, construction and operation processes. In caring for the environment, it is also our objective that our buildings do not cost more than traditionally-built structures over their lifetime, and clearly demonstrate better lifecycle costs and value in both capital and operating terms.
Our sustainability framework - RENEWABLES
We are dedicated to providing a sustainable business for our customers, employees, communities and shareholders and have invested heavily to ensure the sustainability of our support and services are an example of industry best practice. Interserve has developed RENEWABLES as a framework for managing our 10 sustainable elements, which are aligned to the Government’s guiding principles and shared UK priorities. This is helping us to manage our environmental, social and economic responsibilities and bring added value to our clients.
Sustainability in practice
Introduced a Green Travel Plan that includes good driving techniques, efficient use and sound logistics to minimise emissions.
As such, we have procured 20 LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) vans for use in central London (reducing all emissions and saving almost £40,000 per annum on congestion charges).
- Video conferencing facilities have been installed in 25 locations. Each use represents a saving on potential distances travelled.
- All fixed and temporary sites operate procedures to stream and recycle waste wherever possible. In offices this includes recycling paper, printer cartridges and redundant equipment; 19,500 tonnes (35 per cent) of waste generated by Interserve in the last year was reused or recycled.
- Enzyme-based urinal cubes allow a waterless urinal without the usual capital investment. Their use has led to an annual water saving of over £9,000 and a carbon saving of 3,185kg per annum, based on a single site of 50 urinals.
